A three-day International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Workshop on Human Trafficking was organized jointly with Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation of Nepal, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) as Co-sponsors and Government of Nepal, Nepali Congress Party, Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Unified Communist Party of Nepal (UCPN-Maoist), Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Nepal Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-Maoist) as Co-hosts. The workshop was organized in Kathmandu, Nepal from 16 to 18 January, 2014.
The workshop was participated by leaders and representatives of twenty political parties of Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Turkey. The workshop was also attended by representatives of the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and twelve international, national and non-governmental organizations which have been actively working on in the issues relating to human trafficking as observers.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Khil Raj Regmi, Chairman of the Council of Ministers on 17 January, 2014. The Workshop consisted of four plenary sessions in a span of two workshop days. The First plenary Session was on Raising Public Awareness on Seriousness and Urgency. The Second Plenary was on Mapping Trans-border Networks of Cooperation. The Third Plenary was on Establishing Fast-track Punishment System. The Fourth and the final session wrap-up session where the adoption of ‘Kathmandu Statement on Human Trafficking’ given below was formalized.
The Opening Session was addressed by Hon’ble Sujata Koirala, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the ICAPP Workshop on Human Trafficking and Vice Chairperson of the ICAPP Women’s Wing.Hon. Chung Eui-yong, Co-Chairman of the Standing Committee and Secretary General of the ICAPP also addressed the conference.
