Nepali Congress Leader Sujata Koirala chaired two separate functions organized in Sunsari and Morang on the occasion of the fourth memorial day of Girija Prasad Koirala, the first Head of the Nation of Nepal, former President of Nepali Congress Party and former Prime Minister.
Leader Koirala chaired the program organized by G. P. Koirala Foundation for Democracy, Peace and Development established in the memory of late Koirala. The program was held in Koirala Residence in Morang, Biratnagar.
In the program, Congress Leader Sujata Koirala stated that democratic constitution as per the mandate of the people can only be established within one year by forging ahead by incorporating the visions of Girija Prasad Koirala. Speaking at the function, she mentioned that Girija Prasad Koirala always gave priority for the establishment of democracy and loktantra. She stressed on the need to develop the Constitution within one year by incorporating his views and ethics. She declared that the Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation, established in the name of her late father, will take forward the principles set by Girija Babu along with development works.
Reiterating the fact that even the opposition agreed that Girija Prasad Koirala had the characteristics of both a leader and a ruler, she informed that Koirala was accepted as a great leader even by the opposition parties. She mentioned that Girija Babu had time and again identified the need of a think tank organization and she gave assurance that the Foundation would work as per his mandate.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief of Nepali Congress Organizational Department Anand Prasad Dhungana said that the Nepali people would get a new Constitution within one year. He said that the parties had no other option than to develop the new Constitution within one year.
Leader Dhungana said that since the views of Girija Prasad Koirala was directly linked to the common Nepali people, the Congress would not make any compromises for the rights of the citizens. He mentioned that Girija Babu had concluded the peace progress by bringing the Maoists, who were conducting a war from the jungle, into the peace process and now his wish will be fulfilled by the Congress by developing the Constitution within one year.
In the program organized by the Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation for Democracy, Peace and Development Congress Central Committee Members Badri Pandey, Ram Kumar Choudhary, Dipak Giri, Former Ambassador Suresh Raj Chalise, Leader of Nepali Congress Purushottam Basnet, Ramchandra Pokhrel, Congress Chair of Morang and CA Member Amrit Aryal, Chair of Siraha Congress and CA Member Sita Devi Yadav, CA Member Bhutuni Devi Khabas, Kabita Sardar along with other speakers praised the role of Girija Prasad Koirala for the reinstatement of democracy and loktantra.
Prior to this program, Leader Koirala participated in the memorial program organized by the Nepali Congress Sister Organizations – Nepal Farmer’s Association and Nepal Democratic Senani Association in Itahari, Sunsari. In the program, leader Koirala urged the Congress Activists to take leadership in developing the country as per the path shown by Girija Babu.
Leader Kiirala noted that Girija Babu was the common leader of the people who rose above the party status and gained international recognition. Girija Babu always worked for the country and the people thus she stressed on the need for all to fulfill his expectations. On the occasion, Chair of Sunsari Congress Rajib Koirala along with the local leaders elaborated on the personality of the late Girija Prasad Koirala. The local party committees also expressed their respect to late Girija Prasad Koirala on the occasion.
