12th commemoration ceremony of Girija Prasad Koirala

The Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation and The Department of International Relations and Diplomacy (DIRD) conducted the 12th commemoration program to honor the memory of Girija Prasad Koirala, a dynamic leader. Chief Guests included former Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Chairperson of GP Koirala Foundation Sujata Koirala. Along with Tribhuvan University’s Faculty Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kusum Shakya.

In the ceremony, Sujata Koirala suggested that balanced diplomatic relations with big foreign powers is the best strategy for Nepal and Giraja Prasad Koirala was well versed in maintaining that balance. Dr. Dinesh Bhattarai, former ambassador and advisor for the prime minister in regards to foreign relations and Dr. Ram Thapaliya, former advisor to the prime minister, was also present in the ceremony. They also further strengthened
the argument of balanced diplomatic relations with the working papers they presented titled Foreign Policy and GP Koirala and GP Koirala, a dynamic leader respectively.

Further in the ceremony a memorandum of understanding was signed between GP Foundation and the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy (DIRD) to conduct research in the areas of Nepal’s foreign policy, democracy, peace and economicdevelopment. The research grant of rupees eighty thousand is to be alloted to post graduate students. The MOU was signed by DIRD’s chief Prem Khanal and representing the foundation was Dr. Tara Prasad Banjade.

Born in 1981, Girija Prasad Koirala was the prime minister of Nepal four times. He played a major role in the successful peace discussion in the country during the Maoist Insurgency.
